The historical context of the issuance of obols massaliètes epigraphs must be placed in the context of the revolt of the Volques, the Voconces and the Allobroges against the authority of Rome, at the time of the revolt of Sertorius in Spain and the takeover performed by Pompey in the Provincia. Marseille, an ally of Rome, remained faithful to Pompey. The defeated tribes of the Provincia saw part of their territory confiscated which could then, according to A.
