Il est très difficile de démêler les fils de l’écheveau des monnayages du Norique au IIe et Ier siècles avant J.-C. Cette complexité est renforcée par les modifications géographiques importantes connues par l’ancien empire austro-hongrois depuis la première Guerre mondiale. Les changements intervenus depuis maintenant plus de dix ans avec l’éclatement de l’ancien bloc soviétique ont encore modifié cet état de fait.

This complexity is reinforced by the significant geographical changes experienced by the former Austro-Hungarian Empire since the First World War. The changes that have occurred over the past ten years with the breakup of the former Soviet bloc have further modified this state of affairs.

DANUBIAN CELTS - NORICUM - NORICI
(2nd-1st century BC)
According to the work of W. Kruta, we can affirm that the kingdom of Noricum was constituted during the middle of the 2nd century BC, in the territory of present-day Carinthia. Together with the Boii of Pannonia and the Taurisci they certainly formed a powerful kingdom, northeast of Italy and were one of the main Celtic formations on the outskirts of the Alps. This entity experienced its greatest expansion in the 1st century BC and extended to the Danube on the eastern part of the Alps. The conquest undertaken by Augustus was not completed until Tiberius and Drusus.
