Novalis, de son vrai nom Georg Philipp Friedrich, Freiherr (en français, « baron ») von Hardenberg, né le 2 mai 1772 au château d'Oberwiederstedt, près de Mansfeld en Saxe dans le nord de la Thuringe historique, et mort le 25 mars 1801 à Weißenfels (Allemagne), est un poète, romancier, philosophe, juriste, géologue, minéralogiste et ingénieur des Mines allemand. Il est l'un des représentants les plus éminents du premier romantisme allemand de Iéna.

Marcel Jean est un peintre, graveur, médailleur et historien de l'art français, né à La Charité-sur-Loire le 16 décembre 1900, et mort à Louveciennes le 4 décembre 1993, membre en 1932 du groupe surréaliste et de l'Association des écrivains et artistes révolutionnaires..

On the obverse, the phrase by Novalis is taken from the novel Heinrich von Ofterdingen: \\\"Soon the Garden of the Hesperides will bloom again and the golden fruits will perfume the breeze.\\\" On the reverse, the quote is taken from the same great German novelist: \\\"Wishes and desires are wings.\\\" Novalis, whose real name was Georg Philipp Friedrich, Freiherr (in English, \\\"Baron\\\") von Hardenberg, was born on May 2, 1772, at Oberwiederstedt Castle, near Mansfeld in Saxony in the northern part of historical Thuringia, and died on March 25, 1801, in Weißenfels (Germany). He was a German poet, novelist, philosopher, jurist, geologist, mineralogist, and mining engineer. He is one of the most prominent representatives of early German Romanticism in Jena. Marcel Jean was a French painter, engraver, medalist and art historian, born in La Charité-sur-Loire on December 16, 1900, and died in Louveciennes on December 4, 1993, a member in 1932 of the surrealist group and of the Association of Revolutionary Writers and Artists.
