Ce type fut frappé entre 1840 et 1907. A partir de 1857, le revers a été légèrement modifié avec des lettres et des pointes de flèches plus petites. Au revers, il s’agit de la variété Old Reverse avec des lettres plus grandes
Pas moins de cinq ateliers différents ont frappé ce type : Philadelphie, l’atelier directeur (sans lettre d’atelier) Charlotte en Caroline du Nord (lettte C), Dahlonega en (Géorgie (lettre D), la Nouvelle-Orléans (lettre O) et San Francisco (lettre S)..
This type was struck between 1840 and 1907. From 1857 onwards, the reverse was slightly modified with smaller letters and arrowheads. On the reverse, it is the Old Reverse variety with larger letters. No fewer than five different mints struck this type: Philadelphia, the Master Mint (without a mint letter), Charlotte, North Carolina (letter C), Dahlonega, Georgia (letter D), New Orleans (letter O), and San Francisco (letter S).
