Exemplaire sur un flan ovale, bien centré des deux côtés avec les grènetis visibles. Très beau portrait. Revers bien venu à la frappe. Jolie patine grise avec des reflets dorés

Rubans type 1. Ptéryges invisibles. C’est la première fois que nous proposons un antoninien de Gallien avec cette titulature au droit pour ce type de revers ! Ce type semble en fait plus rare que ne le laissent supposer les ouvrages généraux. Même coin de droit que l’exemplaire reproduit dans le MIR. 36, pl. 67 provenant de la vente Aufhäuser 8, 1991, n° 550.
Ribbons type 1. Invisible pteryges. This is the first time that we have offered an Antoninianus of Gallienus with this title on the obverse for this type of reverse! This type actually seems rarer than general works suggest. Same obverse die as the copy reproduced in the MIR. 36, pl. 67 from the Aufhäuser 8 sale, 1991, no. 550

Augustus with Valerian I
Gallien, the son of Valérien I, was born in 218. He was immediately associated by his father with power and was in charge of the West, while his father went to the East. He won a brilliant victory over the Germans and consolidated the Rheno-Danubian limes. After the capture of Valérien in the East, Gallien must face on all fronts. The Empire breaks up. Gaul, Spain, Germania and Brittany secede with Postumus, who first eliminated Salonin, son of Gallien. It is the usurpation of Macrianus and Quietus in the East. Gallien will spend the last eight years of his life trying to put the pieces of this empire back together. Finally, he was assassinated in September 268 under the walls of Milan while besieging Aureolus, the master of the Cavalry, who revolted.
