HAINAUT - COUNTY OF HAINAUT - WILLIAM IV OF BAVARIA
(1404-1417)
Guillaume IV (1365-1417) is the son of Albert of Bavaria and Marguerite de Brieg. He succeeded his father in 1404 and was also Count of Holland. He is the father of Jacqueline of Bavaria (1401-1436) who will succeed him in 1417. He could not prevent the growing influence of Flanders in the region. Under his reign, with the second phase of the Hundred Years War, Hainaut began to decline before being absorbed into the Burgundian Empire in 1433 by Philippe le Bon..
