The consuls for the year 118 BC are Marcus Porcius Cato and Quintus Marcius Rex. Apart from Gaul where the interests of Rome were at stake, Africa is the great field of Roman action. After the death of Miscipsa, king of Numidia, his kingdom is shared between Adherbal, Hiempsal and Jugurtha, origin of the war in Numidia between 115 and 112 BC. Again, a campaign is carried out by the Roman troops in Dalmatia in 118-117 BC. The following year Lucius Cæcilius Metellus Diadematus and Quintus Mucius Scævola were consuls.
