Les deniers au A croiseté sont nombreux et très variés, sans qu’aucune attribution pertinente ne soit retenue !
Cet exemplaire présente une petite tête dans un grènetis intérieur, au droit ; le Belfort 414 est d’un type proche de ce denier. Tous les deniers au A croiseté on longuement (et à tort) été attribués à la cité Arvernum.
The deniers with crossed A are numerous and very varied, without any relevant attribution being retained! This example presents a small head in an interior beading, on the obverse; the Belfort 414 is of a type close to this denier. POITOU - METALUS VICUS - MELLE (Deux-Sevres)
(late 7th - 8th centuries)
The Melle workshop, in the south-east of Deux-Sèvres, was important in the Carolingian period and seems to have been in operation from the Merovingian period. The silver-lead mines are still accessible and can be visited by a wide public.
