Dans son article “A posthumous issue of Antiochus IV of Syria” (NC 1960, pp. 25-30), O.Morkholm propose deux hypothèses à ces frappes posthumes : il est possible qu’Alexandre I Balas fit frapper ces monnaies dans l’espoir de reconquérir le peuple d’Antioche (Antiochus IV ayant alors gardé une certaine popularité alors que le roi actuel ainsi que son très probable successeur Demetrios II n’étaient pas aimés du peuple) ; ou bien, plus certainement, ces monnaies furent frappées par des magistrats locaux lors de l’interrègne.

In his article “A posthumous issue of Antiochus IV of Syria” (NC 1960, pp. 25-30), O.Morkholm proposes two hypotheses for these posthumous mintings: it is possible that Alexander I Balas had these coins minted in the hope of reconquering the people of Antioch (Antiochus IV having then retained a certain popularity while the current king as well as his very probable successor Demetrios II was not loved by the people); or, more certainly, these coins were minted by local magistrates during the interregnum
