评论

(Commentaires VAN WAEYENBERGHE Pascal).
We initially attributed this token to John the Fearless, but this attribution seems impossible since the coat of arms on the obverse was only used by his three successors, namely Philip the Good, Charles the Bold, and Mary of Burgundy. This example cannot therefore be earlier than 1419 as initially announced, and since it is a commonplace type, it is highly likely that its production continued beyond the end of Mary's reign (1482), probably until around the 1530s and 1540s. (Comments VAN WAEYENBERGHE Pascal)

历史细节

BURGUNDY (DUKES OF...)

Burgundy is a duchy created at the end of the 9th century. and ruled by the Robertian house. In 1364, the duchy passed to Philippe le Hardi, fourth son of Jean le Bon. Quickly, the duchy became one of the most prosperous states in Western Europe. Philippe le Bold (1364-1404) then Jean sans Peur (1404-1419) tried to play a role in France during the crises of the reign of Charles VI. Philippe le Bon (1419-1467) continued this policy by joining forces with the English. He took care from 1435 (Treaty of Arras) of his State which had become increasingly important through the acquisition of Flanders, Artois, Franche-Comté, Brabant, Hainaut, Holland, etc. . while leading a skilful political and artistic life. Charles the Bold (1467-1477) tried to enlarge his duchy still further but his state was dismantled at his death and Burgundy proper returned to France while the other possessions passed to the Habsburgs through the marriage of Marie, daughter of the Bold, with Maximilian I.
