Corinth was one of the most important cities of Greece by controlling militarily and economically the Isthmus of the same name. The presence of Pegasus on the obverse refers to the myth of Bellerophon. The stater or Corinthian didrachm whose weight was 8.60 g was divided into 3 and not 2 drachms as in the Attic system. The Corinthian drachma weighed approximately 2.87 g. The Corinthian mine weighed 287 g and was worth 100 Corinthian drachmas. Corinth certainly increased its production of "colts" from 344 BC, when Timoleon settled in Syracuse.
