正面的说明书 Hercule barbu demi-nu, debout de face avec la léonté, sur son épaule gauche une patte du lion, sur son bras et autour de sa taille la peau du lion de Némée, derrière ses jambes queue et pattes du lion, unissant la Liberté debout à gauche tournée à droite tenant une pique surmontée d'une main de Justice, vêtue d'un peplos et l'Égalité debout à droite tournée à gauche, tenant le niveau, vêtue d'un chiton ; à l'exergue, sous un trait, *Dupré* en cursif.

背面的文字 RÉPUBLIQUE FRANÇAISE*.
背面的说明书 5 / FRANCS, en deux lignes ; au-dessous un trait séparatif et 1848, le tout contenu dans une couronne composée à gauche d'une branche de laurier, à droite d'une branche de chêne, nouées à leur base par un ruban ; au-dessous du nœud la lettre d'atelier A encadrée des différents.

Nous ignorons l’utilité de ces très rares pièces de cartons. Certaines ont utilisé des coins originaux mais ce n’est pas le cas de cet exemplaire qui présente de minimes différences tant au droit qu’au revers avec le type standard.
Dans les différence signifiantes et ayant un sens, la signature Dupré a disparu au droit, il n’y a pas de lettre d’atelier ni de différent du Graveur Général (remplacé par une étoile) au revers. On note que la tranche en relief est faite avec beaucoup de soin.
We do not know the purpose of these very rare cardboard pieces. Some have used original corners, but this is not the case with this example, which has minimal differences both on the obverse and on the reverse with the standard type. Among the significant and meaningful differences, the Dupré signature has disappeared on the obverse, there is no workshop letter or difference from the General Engraver (replaced by a star) on the reverse. We note that the raised edge is made with great care

During the February 1848 revolution, Louis-Philippe abdicated in favor of his grandson, but the latter was not recognized by the Chambers and, on February 24, the Republic was proclaimed by a decree of the provisional government.. He proclaimed the freedom of work, the abolition of the death penalty in political matters, universal suffrage. The national workshops were created in March 1848. Elections are held in April and result in the success of moderate Republicans. The closing of the national workshops causes riots which are bloodily repressed by General Cavaignac who is appointed chairman of the council. The rebels are executed, imprisoned, deported. Legislative power is entrusted to a single assembly while the President of the Republic, elected by universal suffrage, holds the executive. The latter is Prince Louis Napoleon. He came into conflict with the assembly in 1850 because his re-election was unconstitutional.. Louis Napoleon then engages in the preparation of the coup d'etat which allows him, on December 2, 1851, to install his dictatorship. In November 1852, it was proposed to restore the hereditary imperial dignity. The plebiscite of November 21-22 gives nearly eight million yes for the Empire while the no collected only about 250. 000 votes. On December 2, 1852, Louis Napoleon was proclaimed emperor under the name of Napoleon III..
