OTACILIA SEVERA, PHILIPPUS I and PHILIPPUS II
The Damascus coinage was important in Roman times. It was first in the Greek language between Augustus and Alexander Severus, then in the Latin language from Philippe I to Gallienus. Damascus was located in the province of Coele Syria. It was connected to Bostra by a direct road. Philip I, it should be remembered, was a native of this city of Arabia and founded not far from her, that of Philippopolis in order to perpetuate his origin.
