C’est la première fois que nous proposons ce type précis de statère. Bien que fourré, on distingue légèrement l’épis de blé devant le cheval, typique de la classe II.
S. Scheers ne répertoriait que cinq exemplaires (deux à la BN, un à Bruxelles, un à Metz et un à Berlin). Le BN. 8936 est indiqué en bronze ; il s’agit probablement d’une monnaie fourrée comme cet exemplaire.

Scheers only listed five examples (two at the National Library, one in Brussels, one in Metz and one in Berlin). BN. 8936 is indicated in bronze; it is probably a filled coin like this example.

MEDIOMATRICI (Area of Metz)
(2nd - 1st century BC)
The Médiomatriques were a very powerful people of Belgian Gaul. They were strongly Romanized and owed their wealth to the salt trade. They were installed on the Moselle and controlled part of the Vosges and Alsace. They had for neighbors the Treveri, the Remi, the Lingones, the Leuci and the Sequani. They provided a contingent of five thousand men for the relief army intended to free Alesia. Their main oppidum was Divodurum (Metz). Caesar (BG. IV, 10; VII, 75).
